RIP Baby Peggy ~ Friday, February 28, 2020

Diana Serra Carey, screen name "Baby Peggy", has passed on. She was the last surviving silent film star, friend of Niles Film Museum, and author of several film history books--also a work of historical fiction.

Last summer I picked up a few issues of Photoplay Magazine at a garage sale--the February 1924 issue describes her fifth birthday party. She was already a big star--her film career began at the age of 19 months. Her childhood in show business was considerably less rosy than this article makes out.
