Paddling Around Petaluma ~ Friday, February 26, 2021
We spent a few days in Petaluma. Specifically, we stayed in a cabin in the KOA campground north of town, which was a good way to have a socially distant vacation.
Petaluma River flows through town (formerly used by steamboats to transfer agricultural products (eggs!) from the P&SR interurban Ry. to San Francisco) and we paddled around a bit in our inflatable boat.
We saw this sunken barge, with a crane on it:
Apparently it's been there since November and people are still trying to work out what to do about it.
We also saw some SMART trains go over the Petaluma River drawbridge:
Speaking of SMART, the station is next to the original NWP station, which is now home to some interesting/weird art installations:
Across the road from the KAO campground is the ROW of the P&SR. This shed is right next to it and has a screw contraption for moving builk material. I'm not sure what exactly this was or if if it actually goes back as far as the railway, but it's an interesting bit of industrial archaeology.
After a few days we headed back home via the Golden Gate Bridge, though we could hardly aee it!
