Streetcar Memorabilia at the San José Depot ~ Wednesday, August 29, 2012
Nathan and I took a short ride on the Capitol Corridor to San José, and I discovered that the SJ station has a small display about local transportation history, including city streetcars and the interurban Peninsular Railway
The "Pen" was an SP subsidiary, and some of its cars were identical to PE equipment (and shipped down south to run on the PE after the Pen shut down). You can ride one surviving car (one of the original, pre-SP-acquisition ones) at the Western Ry Museum in Rio Vista; there are several preserved SJ city cars at the California Trolley and Railroad Corporation's carbarn at the SJ History Museum in Kelly Park.
