Watching the F Line from Pier 39 ~ Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Last Friday we met up with some family at Muir Woods--just to tie that into theme of this blog, there was a time when you could have reached Muir Woods via a Northwestern Pacific ferry and 3rd rail interurban, and then the Mt Tamalpais & Muir Woods Ry, powered by shay locomotives (up) and gravity (down).

On weekends, you can still get there by ferry and a connecting shuttle bus, and given that parking was scarce already on a Friday, if you go on a weekend, I'd recommend it.

On the way back we stopped and walked around Pier 39; a tourist trap, but also a good trolley watching spot since it's at the end of the F line and has a convenient pedestrian bridge.

Nathan was very interested.

This car made a short turn, but hit a rough spot in the overhead.

Rewiring poles is part of the job.
